JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Merchandise Buyer to join our team in an entry-level capacity. This role is crucial for ensuring that our store is stocked with high-quality sports equipment and accessories that meet the needs and preferences of our customers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports, a keen eye for detail, and a willingness to learn and grow within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Selection and Procurement:
- Assist in sourcing and evaluating potential suppliers and manufacturers.
- Help in selecting merchandise that aligns with current market trends and customer preferences.
- Support negotiations of contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels to maintain optimal stock without overstocking.
- Coordinate with the sales and operations team to forecast demand and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
- Assist in implementing inventory control measures to minimize losses and maximize profitability.
Market Research and Trend Analysis:
- Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and consumer preferences.
- Analyze sales data to identify best-selling products and adjust buying strategies.
- Inventory allocation to stores and other channels.
- Address customer returns to separate spoilage.
Vendor Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers.
- Ensure timely delivery of products and resolve any issues related to quality or delivery.
Budget Management:
- Assist in developing and managing the purchasing budget to achieve financial targets.
- Track expenses and ensure alignment with the allocated budget.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, inventory levels, and sales performance.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to improve procurement strategies.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-year experience in a retail environment
- Knowledge of sports equipment and accessories is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
